Not sure whether you're looking for a full essay here, or how long it's supposed to be, so I'll start by giving you a few pointers and you can reply with more info if that's not sufficient.
I'm assuming you're talking about food for humans?
Yes - humans have fished in the seas for ...
Lots of forms of nutrition, both ethically supported and shamed, can be found in the sea such as fish, shark meat, whales, seaweed, ...
As human civilisation has progressed, human ethics has made the distinction between what we view ethical to consume; generally sustainable, well populated species, versus what we see as unethical or even against the law in some countries, such as shark and whale. Our early ancestors, however, would most likely not have made these distinctions, eating whatever they had access to, due to the fact that they were unable to buy and transport 'sustainable' seafood, and were not aware of dwindling oceanic populations. In addition to this, early humans would not have been able to eat as often as the modern person might, so any food available would be consumed.
In fact, it is these near extinctions we can see from geological and archeological discoveries that inform us of how early and heavily humans farmed the seas...
In conclusion, I believe that oceans have long been a source of food...
Hope this helps! Livvi :)
