Odisha has greatly benefited from Hirakud dam,because -

• Before the formation of the Hirakud dam,the Odisha was greatly affected by the floods, on a regular basis. Due to the long 27 kilometres length and massive size of the Hirakud dam,a large portion of the Odisha is now able to get rid of the flood related problems.

• The Hirakud dam was a multi-purpose river project which means it can easily produce a large amount of hydroelectric energy. This hydroelectric power is a very important asset of the Odisha.

• This dam is one of the largest dams in the world and that's why it's a great tourist spot. So,this dam is also a great enhancement in the Odisha's tourism industry.
