Odysseus’s decision defies ancient Greek attitudes and values that:

A great leader has great self-control and makes sound decisions.

When Odysseus and his men landed on the eland of Cyclopes, Odysseus wanted to excavate the land and know about Cyclopes. He wanted to see if Cyclops had anything which they can give to them. The Cyclopes are giant and huge creatures who were blessed by the Gods for food for their living. They don't want any visitors to come to their place. The other men made a plan to steal things from the cavemen but Odysseus wanted to stay there and check them. This reflects on the idea that he was brave and daring.

Inspite of repeated requests by his men, Odysseus refuses to return to the ship due to which the entire crew faces terrible consequences.
