She lived in a small rented room with bits of black-out paper hanging along the window and she had no more items than a few cutlery in a narrow table drawer. Given her current conditions, and her harrowing past experience, forgetting about her mother's stuff, which was no more than silverware, plates and vases, was comparatively easy. She also says she wants to forget them because, if she were to remove them from their current location, a place where she had once lived a good life, they would lose their value and the sentiments attached to them, ie, the memories of her mother, would go away.
