$\frac{1}{f} = \frac{1}{v} + \frac{1}{u}$

$\frac{ - 1}{30} + \frac{1}{40} = \frac{1}{v} \\ \frac{ - 10}{120} =\frac{1}{v} \\ v = - 12cm$
