given, p=√2-1

Now, p-1/p=p^2-1/p

=[(√2-1 )(√2-1 )-1]/(√2-1 )

Rationalising the denominator

=[(√2-1 )(√2-1 )-1] *(√2+1)/(√2-1 )(√2+1)

=[(√2-1)(√2-1 )(√2+1)-(√2+1)]/1

=(√2-1 )(1)-(√2+1)

=√2-1-√2-1

=2
