1) Poet Neruda wishes to have total inactivity. Unnecessary rush and hurry have troubled and tensed all of us. The noise of machines creates disturbance when everything is at rest, it will be an exotic moment. ... Here the poet refers to the 'sadness' which we form out of our own thinking and action.

2)The metaphor of the rattrap highlights the theory of crime and punishment. "The Rattrap" is a metaphor for how humanity is beguiled by the "traps" of life, "all the good things that are offered."

3)Kamala Das mother is old and pale and her health is deteriorating. So, the poet feels a familiar pain, which is one of her constant fears that she might lose her mother. She has an ache inside her heart that she might not be able to see her mother again.

4)The old men of the village were sitting on the back benches during M Hamel's last lesson because they were sorry that they had not attended school more often. They also wanted to thank their teacher for his forty years of faithful service and to show their respect for the country that was theirs no longer.
