Let no of men in village  = x

and total population of village = 100

Then Total number of women in village = Total population - number of men

                                                                  = 100 - x

Now,

number of married man =  42 % of total men

                                        = $\dfrac{42}{100}$ × x

                                       = 0.42 x

number of married women = 24 % of total women

                                             = $\dfrac{24}{100}$ ×  (100-x)

                                            = 0.24 ( 100 - x )

∵   No man marries more than one women and vice versa

So,   0.42 x = 0.24 ( 100 - x )

Ie.  0.42 x = 24 - 0.24 x

Or,   0.42 x + 0.24 x =  24              

Or,  0.66 x = 24

∴             x = $\dfrac{2400}{66}$

So, number of men in village = x = $\dfrac{2400}{66}$

So, Number of married men = 0.42 × $\dfrac{2400}{66}$

                                              = $\dfrac{168}{11}$

And, number of women in  village = 100 - x

                                                         = 100 - $\dfrac{2400}{66}$

                                                         = $\dfrac{4200}{66}$

So, number of married women = 0.24  × $\dfrac{4200}{66}$

                                                    = $\dfrac{168}{11}$

So, Total married population =  $\dfrac{168}{11}$ + $\dfrac{168}{11}$

                                                = $\dfrac{336}{11}$

%age of total married population = 30.54 %

Hence, The percentage of married population is village is 30.54%   Answer
