Offsets are tiny daughter plants attached to the body of a mother plant. This division takes place in the meristematic region of the mother plant by mitotic division. This is an asexual reproduction and the daughter plants are exactly identical genetically to the mother plants. Examples of plants that reproduce my offsets are tulips and lillies.

The offsets in plants is also called as the clone because they are genetically and virtually identical to the mother plant. They form in the axillary bud (Meristem region) of the mother plant through asexual reproduction.

The offsets have the ability to grow and be sustain like the mother plant. These offsets are commonly found in the plants which have an underground storage organ like Onion. These offsets can be detached from their mother plant and can be grown separately as they possess the ability to grow alone like their mother.
