Asexual mode of reproduction is more or less mitosis, only at the end of which one gets two organisms rather than cells…consider a Hydra, it uses budding(asexual reprod.) in many cases to reproduce. Since the process is mitosis, the offspring produced resembles the parent exactly since the whole process of meiotic recombination is not taking place in this case. The offspring thus inherits all traits as they are in the parent and hence is more or less a clone.




In the process of asexual reproduction, only one parent is involved and there is no fusion of male and female gametes. As a result, the offspring produced are morphologically and genetically similar to their parents. Therefore , they are called clones.
