Okay, two people spoiled my question, so I had to post it again. SP PLEASE HAVE SYMPATHY AND ANSWER ME!!!

Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow.
THE DESERT
I couldn’t bear it anymore. I stumbled among the dunes of the hot desert. All hope in me was slowly dissipating. I slumped down, muscles aching and exhausted. The sun blazed down over the desert. Sand dunes stretched in all directions as far as the eye could see.

I adjusted the scarf around my face which was the same color of my white linen robe. They were the only things building the resistance against the scorching heat. I screwed up my eyes again at the glare of the sun. My throat was parched and my lips were cracked. No, I couldn’t give up yet. I had to survive. I had to find water even if it was a few drops from the rare plants. I refused to die there, my bones scoured by sand.

I rose to my feet and brushed the sand from my robe, determined to set one foot in front of the other. I climbed with much difficulty up to the crest of the next dune. My heart was pounding against my ribcage. My muscles screamed for rest. My lungs burned, striving for fresh and cool air.

When I reached the top, shock and relief made me lose my balance. In front of me, between the sand dunes, was a shimmering blue lake. Trees surrounding it, their big leaves swaying gently in the hot dry winds. “I’m saved! I’m saved!”, I exclaimed with utmost joy and relief. I staggered down the side of the dune, my feet sinking into the loose sand. However as I drew closer, the oasis began to fade, vanishing into the glare of the merciless sun. I fell desperately on the ground, grabbing handful of sand which trickled through my fingers.

The beautiful lake had been a mirage. I slumped down, burdened by the loss of hope. I did not want to die but I had no determination to continue either. Was there even an end to this accursed place? I buried my face in my hands and began to sob. After a while, I realized that there were echoes following my sobs. I looked up and saw something that I had failed to notice before. Rocks emerged from the sand behind me and between them was a dark, hollow gap leading back into the dune.

A cave!

Q. How much emotionally strong is the narrator? At what point did his optimism completely shatter? Why?
Q. Do you think the narrator feels happy as he notices the cave? Why do you think so?
