Old memories are not always pleasant .It has been depicted very clearly through the story.Old memories take us to the past and makes us experience the happiness but when we look onto our present again we get bothered and the pain of loosing the past sucks us a lot .We get embarrassed of loosing the past days .As in the story the narrator is happy when she remembers the past memories when she spent her happy  days with her mother but now the absence of her mother pricks her.That's why she decides  not to take her belongings back , as they make her remember her mom.
