Some joints like the shoulder joint and knee joints need to be held firmly in position and well lubricated such bones usually have lubricating fluid known as synovial fluid which acts as a cushion and removes friction between the joints. As we age the joints become stiffer and we feel pain because the amount of synovial fluid decreases and cartilage become thinner making the joints feel stiff.
