Oliver could have ended each line at the end of a sentence like this
ACTIVITY
At Blackwater Pond the tossed waters have tester
a night of rain.
I dip my cupped hands.
I drink a long time.
It tastes like stone, leaves, fire.
It falls cold into my body, waking the bones.
I hear them deep inside me, whispering oh what is the
beautiful thing that just happened?
Notice how the sentences differ. Some sentences are long we
short, some sentences have more than one part, and one sentence is
question. The different kinds of sentences in Oliver's poem makes
