Given:

  • Total time taken by Olivia to complete her Maths, French and History homework = 3 hours or 180 minutes
  • Time spent on History homework = 70 minutes
  • Time spent on Maths homework = (Time spent on History homework) - 15 = 65 minutes

To find:

Minutes spent by Olivia on her French homework

Solution:

The time spent on History homework + time spent on Maths homework + time spent on French homework = 180 minutes.

Let the minutes spent on French homework be x.

The following equation will be formed:

70 minutes + x minutes + 65 minutes = 180 minutes.

So,

  • 70 + x + 65 = 180
  • 135 + x = 180
  • x = 180 - 135
  • x = 45 minutes

Therefore, Olivia takes 45 minutes to do her French homework.
