Omnidirectional. Picks up sound evenly from all directions (omni means "all" or "every").
⚡Unidirectional. Picks up sound predominantly from one direction. This includes cardioid and hypercardioid microphones (see below).

- Move the mics farther away from each other.
- Set up the mics so that the dead zones of the polar patterns face the opposing mic.
- Talk as close to the mic as you can without causing problems (plosives, proximity effect)
- Minimize sound reflection in the room.
