On a baseball team, the highest batting average is 0.338 and the lowest is 0.178. Rounding to the nearest tenth will not be a good way to compare players because:

  • it is said that the batting average of the baseball players are usually reported in decimal thousandths.

  • It will be better to compare the averages by rounding them to nearest thousandths.

  • In the above case, as per highest batting average, if we round it to thousandths it means that one gets 338 hits in 1000 times.

  • Which becomes difficult while comparing through rounding to nearest tenth.
