Given data : On a certain item,a shopkeeper gives 10% discount to the customer and still he gets 8% profit. If the marked price of the item is Rs 6000.

To find : what is the cost price of the item of the shopkeeper ?

Solution : Now, by formula of discount%.

⟹ discount% = ( discount/marked price ) * 100

⟹ 10 = ( discount/6000 ) * 100

⟹ 10/100 = discount/6000

⟹ 0.1 = discount/6000

⟹ discount = 0.1 * 6000

⟹ discount = Rs 600

Now,

⟹ discount = marked price - selling price

⟹ 600 = 6000 - selling price

⟹ selling price = 6000 - 600

⟹ selling price = Rs 5400

Now,

⟹ Cost price = ( 100 * selling price )/( 100 + profit% )

⟹ Cost price = ( 100 * 5400 )/( 100 + 8 )

⟹ Cost price = 540000/108

⟹ Cost price = Rs 5000

Answer : Hence cost price of the item is Rs 5000.
