Given:  Trapezoid ABCD has points (-3, -2), (-1, 2), (3, 2), and (5, -2), ABCD is an isosceles trapezoid.

To find:  The approximate perimeter of ABCD?

Solution:

  • Now we have given isosceles trapezoid, with four coordinates.
  • We know that isosceles trapezoid has two sides of same length.
  • So formula of perimeter of  isosceles trapezoid is : a + b + 2c

         We have a = 3-(-1) = 4 cm.

         We have base = b = 5-(-3) = 8 cm

         And leg = c = {√( -1-(-3) )² + ( 2-(-2) )² }

                          c = { √4 + 16 }

                          c = { √20 }

                          c = 2√5

  • Putting these values in formula, we get:

          a+b+2c = 4 + 8 + 2(2√5)

                       = 12 + 4√5

                       = 12 + 8.94

                       =20.94 cm

Answer:

           So the approximate perimeter of ABCD is 20.94 cm(iii).
