The number of pupils present when 1/7 of the pupils in the class were absent are 37

Let the total number of pupils in class be x

Number of students absent = 1/6x

Number of students present = 35

Total number of students = x = 1/6x+35

X-1/6x= 35

6x-1x/6=35

5x/6=35

5x= 35×6

X=210/5

X=42

Total Number of pupils = 42

Number of pupils absent = 1/7z

Number of pupils present = z

Total numbers of pupils = 42

42=1/7z+z

42=1z+7z/7

42=8z/7

42×7=8z

294=8z

294/8=z

Z=37
