225 books could be stocked in the shelf.

Explanation:

The thickness of each book = 3 cm.

∴ The thickness of 150 books together = (150×3) cm

                                                                 = 450 cm

The length of the shelf = total thickness of the books = 450 cm.

∴ The length of the shelf is 450 cm.

∴ If the thickness of each book would be 2 cm then the number of books could be stocked in the shelf _

(450/2) books

= 225 books.

∴ 225 books could be stocked in the shelf.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Books                 Thickness

 150                         3 cm

   x                           2 cm

inverse variation

x1 : x2 :: y2 : y1

150 : x :: 2 : 3

150 × 3 = 2x

150 * 3 / 2 = x

75 * 3 = x

225 = x

x = 225
