On a number line, co-ordinates of P, Q , R are − 3, 5 and −2 respectively. State with reason whether the following statement is true or false. (Write all steps) (3) a) d (P,Q) + d (Q,R) = d (P,R)

Co-ordinate s of P,Q and R are -3,5 and -2 respectively

d(P,Q)=5-(-5)

=5+5

= 10 units

d(Q,R) = 5-(-2)

=5+2

= 7 units

d(P,R) = -3-(-2)

= -3+2

=1 unit

d(P,Q) + d(Q,R) = d(P,R)

10+7=1

This statement is false because 10+7 is not equal to 1
