On a particular day, 10% of the students in a class remained absent. If 45 were present on that day, then find the total strength of the class.​

Solution:-

No. of students absent (in%) = 10%

The no. of students present (in%) = 100 - 10 = 90%

No. of students present= 45

No. of students absent =(45/90)*100

= 4500/90

=50

Therefore;

Total no. of students = absent + present

= 50+45

= 95

Total strength of the class is 50 students.

• Let the total strength of students in the class be 'x'.
• On a particular day, 10% of the students were absent.
• That means 90% of the students were present.
• Now , it is given that 45 students were present on that day.
• Therefore, 90% of the total strength of students will be equal to 45.

Percentage = $\frac{No. \ of \ students \ present}{Total \ strength}$ × 100

90 = $\frac{45}{x}$ × 100

x = $\frac{45}{90}$ × 100

x = 50

• Total strength of the class is 50 students.
