In the Nainital area of the state of Uttarakhand, there is a national park called Jim Corbett National Park. It was the first national park in India when it was created in 1936 during the British Raj and was given the name Hailey National Park in honor of William Malcolm Hailey, the governor of the United Provinces at the time. After the hunter and naturalist Jim Corbett, who had been instrumental in its founding and had passed away the year before, it was renamed Corbett National Park in 1956, nearly ten years after India's independence. Gir National Park
In Gujarat, India, next to Talala Gir, there is a forest, national park, and wildlife sanctuary known as Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary (sometimes referred to as Sasan Gir). It has a total area of 1,410.30 km2 and 1,151.59 km2 of wildlife sanctuary, of which 258.71 km2 is completely protected as a national park. It was founded in 1965 in the former Nawab of Junagarh's private hunting territory. It belongs to the ecoregion of dry deciduous woods called Khathiar-Gir.
The only location where this species of lion, the Asiatic lion, is currently found in its natural habitat is in the Gir forests of Gujarat (India). The lion is more accepting of humans than the other big cats are, and it even makes its home close to where people live.
