On a sheet of graph paper , using a scale of 2cm to represent 1 unit on the xaxis and 1 cm to represent 1 unit on the y-axis, draw the graph of the linear
equation y = 2x + 3 for values of x from -2 to 2.
(ii) the points (-1,a) and (b,4) lie on the graph in (i). Find the value of a and b

Given : linear equation y = 2x + 3

values of x from -2 to 2

(ii) the points (-1,a) and (b,4) lie on the graph

To Find : Draw the graph

the value of a and b

Solution:

y = 2x + 3

x       y = 2x + 3

-2         -1

-1           1

0           3

1            5

2           7

Graph is attached.

(- 1 , 1) lies on the graph hence comparing with (-1 , a)

Value of a = 1

(0.5 , 4)  lies on the graph comparing with (b , 4)

Value of b = 0.5
