on a spinner of numbers 2,1,1,2,3,1,2,3 what is the probability of getting odd number, getting 2? And also, do you have equal chance on landing on 3, what whill be the probability of odd number if 2 was removed from the wheel and what will be the probability of getting an odd number if we add numbers 5 and 7 to the wheel.
Answers
Given : a spinner of numbers 2,1,1,2,3,1,2,3
To find : probability of getting odd number , getting 2
Solution:
Spinner having numbers 2,1,1,2,3,1,2,3
n(s) = 8
n(1) = 3
n(2) = 3
n(3) = 2
odd number 1 & 3
probability of getting odd number = (n(1) + n(3))/ n(S) = (3 + 2) /8 = 5/8
probability of getting 2 = n(2)/n(s) = 3/8
chance of landing on 3 = n(3)/n(S) = 2/8
chance of landing on 3 is less than chance of landing on 2
probability of odd number 2 was removed from the wheel
then n(S) = 8 - 3 = 5
n(1) + n(3) = 3 + 2 = 5
Probability = 5/5 = 1
we add numbers 5 and 7 to the wheel.
n(S) = 8 + 2 = 10
n(odd numbers) = 5 + 1 + 1 = 7
Probability = 7/10
if odd numbers 5 & 7 added after removing 2
then probability of odd numbers = 7/7 = 1
