The number of substandard valves in a lot of 2000 packets is 4000.

Explanation:

Given:

On an average, one in every 50 valves  is substandard.

valves are supplied in packets of 100 each.

To Find:

The number of substandard valves in a lot of 2000 packets.

Solution:

As given,on an average, one in every 50 valves  is substandard.

No. of substandard valve in  every 50 valves =1.

As given, valves are supplied in packets of 100 each.

Nos.of  valves in a  packet = 100.

Nos. of  substandard  valve in one packet =\frac{100}{50} =2

Therefore, the number of substandard valves in a lot of 2000 packets

                                                                     =2000\times 2= 4000

Thus, the number of substandard valves in a lot of 2000 packets is 4000.
