this can be tested using a moist litmus paper
if the blue litmus paper turns red and red litmus paper remains red, the gas is acidic in nature
if the red litmus paper turns blue and blue litmus paper remains blue, the gas in basic in nature
(note. A dry litmus paper cannot be used as, ionization in presence of moisture of compound is what is responsible for acidic/basic properties of that compound)
