Given info : the pair of equations x - 2y = 0 and 3x + 4y - 20 = 0

To find : on comparing the ratios of the coefficient, we have to find out whether the pair of equations is consistent or inconsistent.

Solution : here, x - 2y = 0 ......(1)

3x + 4y - 20 = 0 ........(2)

here, a₁ = 1, b₁ = -2 and c = 0

a₂ = 3 , b₂ = 4 and c₂ = -20

a₁/a₂ = 1/3

b₁/b₂ = -2/4 = -1/2

c₁/c₂ = 0/-20

here it is clear that, a₁/a₂ ≠ b₁/b₂ so pair of equations has only one solution. Therefore the pair of equations is consistent.
