Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

On decreasing a number by 40 % a result of 360 is obtained.

To find:-

Find the original number.

Solution:-

Let the original number be X

40% of the number = 40% of X

=>(40/100)×X

=>40X/100

=>2X/5

40% of the number = 2X/5

Now,

On decreasing the number by 40%

=>X-40% of X

=>X-(2X/5)

=>(5X-2X)/5

=>3X/5

On decreasing the number by 40% then it becomes 3X/5

the result is 360

=>3X/5 = 360

=>3X = 360×5

=>3X =1800

=>X = 1800/3

=>X = 600

The number = 600

Answer:-

The original number for the given problem is 600

Check:-

The number = 600

40% of 600

=>(40/100)×600

=>40×6

=>240

On decreasing 600 by 40% then it becomes

600-240

=>360

Verified the given relation.
