2FeSO₄ ---Heat------> Fe₂O₃  + SO₂  +  SO₃

The gas X will SO₂ ( Sulphur dioxide)  and Y will be SO₃  ( Sulphur trioxide )

The nature of these gases ( X and Y ) is acidic .

X and Y are  sulfur dioxide and sulphur trioxide.  They are slightly acidic as dissolving them in water, we get a little of sulphuric or sulphurous acid.
