let the original price be x
the increase in price is 16 % of x
1479 = x + 16/100 x
1479 = x + 16x /100
taking lcm
1479 = 100x/100 = 16x/100
1479 = 116x /100
147900 = 116x
147900/116 = x
x = 1275

therefore original price = 1275
