  • The interparticle forces involved in the ethanol and benzene are hydrogen bonding and london dispersion forces respectively.
  • When the two liquids are mixed the benzene molecules will obstruct the hydrogen bonding between the ethanol molecules and hence the attractive force is lesser.
  • Therefore the mixture of the two will occupy more volume than the sum of their individual volumes.
