I've seen quite a few movies where this happens. Typically, the finder decides to keep it, hide it, or run from whomever may be looking for it. The loser almost always cares very deeply about finding it and usually they do. It never works out well for the finder -- never. The people looking for their money are almost always unsavory types who won't think twice about killing you to obtain what is rightfully theirs.

I guess I would put it into a safety deposit box and hand over the key when they eventually find me. Not a very exciting movie story, but I dislike the idea of being shot at or hacked to pieces with a chainsaw for not being cooperative.
