The gas that supports combustion is Carbon(iv)oxide.

Air is a mixture of gases .

These gases are Oxygen ,Carbon (iv) oxide, Nitrogen gas and noble gases.

Oxygen supports combustion whereas Carbon (iv) oxides puts off flame.

When the candle is covered using an inverted tumbler , the candle uses up the oxygen present in the tumbler.

Once the oxygen is used up , the Carbon (i) oxide present in the tumbler puts off the candle.

The answer is thus :

Carbon (iv) oxide (Carbon dioxide).
