If a tube of half the diameter is used instead the water will rise to a height of nearly two times.

Given-

  • Level of water rises up to a height of 4 cm
  • Diameter of the tube is half

We know that height of the water in the capillary tube is inversely proportional to the radius of the tube.

On keeping the other parameters constant.

Since the diameter is half, radius will also become half  then height of the water will  becomes double in capillary.
