The total number of blankets was 400

Let the initial number of blankets be x

Donated to the old age home is x/2

Remaining blankets = x- x/2 = x/2

Donated to orphanage = 3/4 of remaining

i.e. 3/4 * x/2  = 3x/8

Remaining blankets  = x/2 - 3x/8 = x/8

Donated to beggars = 50

which is equal to the last remaining amount i.e. x/8

x/8  = 50

x = 400
