on simplifying the result is (a+b-2) - (b-a+2) +(a-b+2)​

here is my look at it

in general you need to define what a and b are that is whether they are positive no.s or negative

in case they are positive the result is same as you can take example any two positive numbers

a=4 and b=7

a-b would be 4–7

and that would be a negative of three (-3)

now you can square it i.e. multiply it two times (-3)*(-3)

it becomes +9

also b-a would be 3 whose square would also be 9

this was when both a and b were positive however the main thing is keeping signs common
