x+6/y=11 ---------------- 1

3x+8/y=28 -------------2

multiplying eq 1 with -3

x(-3)+6/y(-3) = 11(-3)

= -3x -18/y = -33-------------3

eliminating eq 3 from 2

3x+8/y=28

-3x -18/y = -33

8/y-18/y= 28-33

= - 10/y = -5

= y = -5/-10

= y = 1/2

substituting the value of y in eq 2

3x+8/(1/2)= 28

3x + 16 = 28

3x = 28- 16

3x = 12

x = 12/3

x= 4

so the value of x and y are 4 & 1/2 respectively

Answer:

x = 8 and y = 2

8 + 6/2 = 11 and

3 × 8 + 8/2 = 28
