x + y = 5 (equation 1)

2x - 3y = 4( equation 2)

Now,

multiplying (eq.1) by 2 and subtracting (eq.2) from (eq.1)

(2x + 2y = 10) - (2x - 3y = 4) => 2x + 2y - 2x + 3y = 6

=> 5y = 6

=> y = 6/5

Putting the value of y in (eq.1) => x+ y = 5

=> x + 6/5 = 5

=> x = 5 - 6/5

=> x = 19/5
