No of squares in n x n square= n x (n+1) x (2n+1)/6.
as n= 7 
= 7(7+1)(2 x 7 + 1)/6
= 140.

Lets Draw a square of 7 * 7 on graph paper

lets call it ABCD

now on AB draw an acute angle at A

Take three consecutive points one by one on angle drawn starting from A at equal distance.

Join 3rd point with B

Now Draw parallel lines Passing through 1st & 2nd point & intersecting AB at P  & Q

Similarly we can get  point on BC , CD & AD

& then join opposite points

to get 9 Smaller Squares
