Complete Question :- On Sunday, Aditi planned to clean the windows from outside. She kept one ladder such that the foot of a ladder is 6 m away from its wall and its top reaches a window 8 m above the ground. Later, she shifted the ladder in such a way that its foot is 8 m away from the wall. To what height does its top reach ?

Solution :-

using pythagoras theorem we get,

→ (Distance between ladder foot from wall)² + (Height of window)² = (Length of ladder)²

→ 6² + 8² = (Length of ladder)²

→ Length of ladder = √(36 + 64)

→ Length of ladder = √(100) = 10 m

now, since ladder is same, again using pythagoras theorem we get, putting Length of ladder now,

→ (Height)² + (Distance between ladder foot from wall)² = (10)²

→ Height = √(10)² - (8)²

→ Height = √(100 - 64)

→ Height = √36 = 6 m (Ans.)

Hence, the ladder reaches to the height of 6 m .
