According to Thomson the electron are the small particles which reside in the Christmas pudding(positive area)but latterly it was found that they(protons) only reside Int the centre from this sense the atom was not whole.

(i) An atom consists of a positively charged sphere and the electrons are embedded in it,
(ii) The negative and positive charges are equal in magnitude. So the atom is electrically neutral.
