What is Matter ?
Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space.

How is matter classified on the basis of composition?
Matter is classified into three types:-
<>Elements
<> Compounds
<> Mixtures

Elements :-
Elements are substances that contain only 1 type of atoms.

for example :-
=>Gold (Au)
=>Silver (Ag)
=>Oxygen(O)

Compounds:-
Compound is a substance that is composed of two or more elements , chemically combined with one another in fixed proportion.

Example :-
1) Water ==> H₂O
2)Methane ==> CH₄


Mixtures:-
When two or more substances are mixed together , in any ratio , but do not combine chemically , are called mixtures.

Example:-
Salt and water
