On the basis of site of release of secretory product, glands can be classified as :

  • Exocrine glands
  • Endocrine glands

Secretion by Exocrine glands :-

Exocrine gland secretes mucus , earwax , oil in our body , saliva , milk and some digestive enzymes for example pepsin , peptides .

The production by exocrine gland is mostly through tubes and ducts .

Secretion by endocrine gland :-

Many types of hormones such as height growth hormones , hair growth hormones , male & female harmones etc are produced by endocrine glands .

There directly injected into blood .

They also control the nervous system

Location of endocrine gland

  • The hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and pineal gland are in the brain , they are said to be master gland .
  • Parathyroid glands is in neck .
  • Thyroid glands is in neck .

  • They are situated on the walls of the stomach lining .
  • Some are also situated in the inner lining of intestine .
