According to Thomsan's model of an atom, an atom consist of both negatively and  positively charged particles. The negatively charged particles are embedded in the positively charged sphere. These negative and positive charges are equal in magnitude. Thus by counterbalancing each other's effect, they make an atom neutral

An atom consists of A positively charged sphere and electrons are embedded in it

The negative and positive charges are equal in magnitude so the atom as a whole is electrically neutral
