Calculation:
1/2×[V + M + A - C]
Here,
V = valence electron of central atom
M = no. of monovalent atom
A = charge of anion
C = charge of cation
In XeF4, central atom is Xe
So, Its V = 8
And M = 4 because 4 monovalent atom is present
Note:
- Atom which has its valency 1 is called monovalent atom.
There's no any charge. So, A and C = 0
Now,
1/2×[8+4+0-0]
1/2 × 12
6 (sp³d²)
So, Its hybridization is sp³d²
