Mark me as the Brainliest I will be thankful to you

After reading 3/8 of the book, the remaining fraction 1 - 3/8 = 5/8

The boy then reads 4/5 of 5/8 = 4/5 x 5/8 = 1/2

Total fraction read = 3/8 + 1/2 = 7/8

The unread fraction = 1 - 7/8 = 1/8 This is equivalent to 30 pages

∴ The book has 30 ÷ 1/8 = 240 pages

Step-by-step explanation:

LET THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PAGES BE X .

THEREFORE ;

ACCORDING TO THE CONDITIONS ,

FIRST DAY ,

PAGES READ = X/2

SECOND DAY ,

PAGES READ = X/2 + 38

ACCORDING TO THE CONDITIONS ;

X - X/2 - 38 = 40

X - X/2 = 78

(2X - X) / 2 = 78

X / 2 = 78

X = 78 × 2

X = 156

THE TOTAL PAGES IN THE BOOK WERE 156 .
