Gandhiji observed numerous fasts. Out of those fasts he observed 3 Hindu-Muslim unity fasts in order to wish for peace and unity between two sects

During the time of independence, he was so appalled by the partition that both Hindus and muslims were killed.

As a result, he was not even in Delhi and was trying to appease situation in Bengal, He saved thousands of Hindus and Muslim from brutal communal violence. His presence in Bengal brought sanity to people in that region
