The speed on the flat is 14mph..

We can take this as the initial speed which will represent 100%.

If this speed increases by 40% then it means the speed on the downhill will be 140%.

Getting the speed downhill, we do cross multiplication.

(140/100)×14=57.4mph

57.4mph.
